With all due respect to the famous Seinfeld episode in which Elaine calls a friend's baby ugly, most of us see infants as the height of natural beauty. If it's our own child, the sight of our baby son or daughter sends us into occasional rapture over his or her exquisiteness. It may not be a fair comparison, but Zen Baby seems a video equivalent to infant gorgeousness. Videotaped with unusual warmth (around neighborhoods, parks, and beaches in Los Angeles), babies are treated to a visual entertainment that can inspire their imaginations and sense of wonder about the world around them. Cradled by original instrumental music that has a rhythmic, subtly Brazilian lilt, the organic images of children, nature, and dymamic objects provide an experience that goes well beyond the more commonly produced static toy or animal shots that seem like a session of watching paint dry. For parents, the "zen-like" vibe can help soothe in times of sensory overload. This is recommended viewing even for toddlers, who can stimulate curiosity about their environment through the video's whimsically and creatively presented eye-sustenance.
